Shannah Montessori School Newsletter
February 2011
Preschool News:
The preschool children have been enjoying
our Hibernation study. Did you know that bears drag branches and leaves into their den to create Winter beds for themselves?
Hibernation Day was such fun! We snuggled in our cozy jammies and sipped hot chocolate with marshmallows!
This month, we will continue our study of the Solar System.
The children will be making Solar System
books, learning songs and enjoying our multi sensory approach to exploring the planets.
In celebration of Valentine's Day, we will continue our peace, love and friendship education. We will discuss
mail and postal service and possibly have a special visit to our Magnolia Post Office! We will also have a Valentine's Day
party on Monday, February 13th& Tuesday February 14th. Please have your child bring a Valentine for each friend in the
classroom. We ask that the envelopes are NOT labeled with the names of the children. This makes it easier for your child to
deliver it to each friend. If your child does not attend school on a Monday, please bring in the cards on Tuesday, Feb 14th.
Please bring in 18 cards.
Just a reminder that Father's Night is February 7th, from 5:30pm - 7:00pm. The children are
eager to show their Dads their favorite work in the classroom. No siblings please.
Our
best,
Karen& Josie

Attention ALL PARENTS: School Sick Policy
It is a State Law, that children must be home for
24 hours following a fever, diarrhea and/or vomiting.
In regards to the coughs, colds, and runny noses, please use your
best discretion. Keep in mind, that children have a very hard time constantly covering their mouths and noses to prevent the
spread of germs from coughing and sneezing. Our goal is to keep the spread of germs to a minimum among students and staff.
Please remember to notify a teacher if your child has any medication prior to coming to school.

Toddler News:
Hello Toddler parents!
We hope you are enjoying the mild winter weather. Thank you for packing appropriate outdoor clothing. We do enjoy spending
time on the playground. Please feel free to leave some slippers at school.
This month we will focus on love, friendship,
emotions and feelings.
At this age, the children are constantly learning how to interact with each other and to move
beyond parallel play. We encourage the children to use their words during interactive play.
During circle time, we will
sing songs, read books about friendship, love and Valentine's Day.
We are delighted with the work choices the children
are making during our morning work cycle, their attention spans are lengthening which means they are engaging in more challenging
tasks.
We look forward to meeting with you during the March conferences. If you feel you need to meet before then,
please call the school to set up a conference.
We will celebrate Valentine's
Day on Tuesday 14thth & Wednesday 15th.
** Please bring Twelve Valentines:
NO NAMES ON ENVELOPES!
Our Valentines' celebration will be a low key
one, the children will be making a Valentine bag at school to hold their cards and treats. If you would like to send in a
special treat, please keep in mind, we are a nut free school.
Thank you
for sharing your children with us!
Ruth & Cindy
